“Distasteful for what that man has done for the club” - Paul Scholes hits out at Manchester United chiefs over Sir Alex Ferguson decision
Former midfielder Paul Scholes believed Manchester United's new part-owners INEOS decision to cut off payments to Sir Alex Ferguson was disrespectful. He added the decision's timing was bad as well, with the club not doing well on the pitch.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Scholes stated that Manchester United were a successful club because of Sir Alex. He believes that the Red Devils owe the legendary manager a lot more than the £2 million they have cut off, saying (via GOAL):
"I thought it was a little bit distasteful for what that man has done for the club. Almost a little bit disrespectful but they're new owners and new owners makes changes and they think what they're doing is best for the club. If they think they can save whatever money I know it's been talked about £2m, if they think they can use it elsewhere then so be it. This club owes a lot to Sir Alex Ferguson."
"It's where it is now mainly because of the success he had for so many years. The timing of it was poor because you think they're in a really bad run of form, could you have waited or done it before the season started, at the end of the season. The publicity wasn't great around but Sir Alex Ferguson will be fine he will go on and still be the best ambassador the club has had," he added.
INEOS have reportedly decided to stop paying Sir Alex Ferguson his yearly £2 million for his long-standing ambassador role as they look to cut costs (via GOAL).
Paul Pogba comments on Manchester United's decision on Sir Alex Ferguson
Paul Pogba spoke to Sky Sports earlier this month and claimed that the decision was not going to affect Sir Alex Ferguson's legacy at Manchester United. He believes that the club will still be running on the legendary manager's name, saying (via FourFourTwo):
"Does it change what he has done for the club? The only thing I hear is that he won't get paid anymore. Sir Alex Ferguson will still be Sir Alex Ferguson. He is still in their history and will be forever. The only thing I hear is the money! He is Sir Alex Ferguson, a legend and always will be at Manchester United."
The Red Devils are currently 10th in the Premier League table after picking up just three wins in eight matches. They are also 21st in the Europa League table after drawing all three of their matches this season.
