"Doesn’t even break into sprint" - Troy Deeney slams Chelsea star for his role in Fulham's winner against them

Former Watford star Troy Deeney has criticized Levi Colwill for failing to track back as Chelsea slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Fulham in their Premier League clash. The two sides locked horns at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, December 26.

The Blues were in cruise control after Cole Palmer broke the deadlock in the 16th minute. However, second half goals from Harry Wilson (82') and Rodrigo Muniz (90+5') ensured Fulham secured their first win at Stamford Bridge since 1979.

Muniz netted the winner following an exceptional counter-attack by the visitors. However, Colwill notably failed to track back in time as he didn't sprint back to aid his team in transition.

Deeney wasn't impressed as he stated on BBC Final Score (via The Chelsea Chronicle):

"It’s so poor from Chelsea defensively. Levi Colwill doesn’t even break into sprint and has no desire to get back. It is well played from Fulham. They’ve planned for this and he’s got the goal.”

Despite his lapse in concentration, Colwill has been one of the Blues' best defenders this season. The 21-year-old was also decent against Fulham, providing one assist, winning seven duels, and making five clearances (via FotMob).

"We knew we weren't going to win every game" - Chelsea star Cole Palmer makes honest admission on title race after losing 2-1 against Fulham

Cole Palmer has insisted the Blues are still learning their trade as a unit under Enzo Maresca after they suffered a 2-1 loss against Fulham at home. He also admitted that they aren't title contenders this season.

Following the game, Palmer told Prime Video Sport:

“We knew we weren't going to win every game. It is the manager's first season with us… We are learning. Everyone said from the start we aren't title contenders. We are just getting better as a team and growing"

Palmer has been sensational for Chelsea this season and has secured 12 goals and six assists in 18 Premier League appearances.

However, the 22-year-old couldn't inspire his side to a win against the Cottagers. The Blues failed to maintain their pressure on leaders Liverpool and remain second in the table with 35 points from 18 games, four points behind the Reds - who have two games in hand.

Enzo Maresca and Co. next face Ipswich Town on Monday, December 30.
