"Doing some things not in the right moment" - Ruben Amorim details his 'concern' with Manchester United stars after Ipswich draw
New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim lamented his team's decision-making following their 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town on Sunday, November 24. The Red Devils failed to get off to a winning start in their first game under the Portuguese tactician, putting in a lackluster performance reminiscent of the previous regime.
The 20-time English champions looked slow off thought and action in the match and came close to losing the game on the road to their more intentional and hungry opponents.
Speaking about the disappointing display, Amorim told the press after the match via United Zone:
"Decision-making is a concern, you don't need to coach them in this level. We are doing some things not in the right moment and that's what we have to address.”
Ruben Amorim's task at Manchester United will be challenging. He will be keen to introduce a clear intent and pattern of play on his team as soon as possible and help them improve their poor league standing. The English giants currently sit in 12th place with 16 points after 12 games.
"I think my players were thinking too much during the game," says Ruben Amorim of Manchester United's performance
New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has discussed what went wrong for his side in his debut match in charge of the English giants. The Red Devils were held to a draw away to Ipswich in a performance that left much to be desired.
The visitors opened the scoring and their account under the new manager after 81 seconds after Marcus found the back of the net. The hosts restored parity before halftime thanks to a fine strike from Omari Hutchinson in the 43rd minute.
Speaking with the press after the match, Amorim discussed what went wrong for his side, telling Sky Sports:
"I think my players were thinking too much during the game, they were thinking not just with the ball, but, 'where am I supposed to be?' It is hard because the team has been together only two days, I think we needed more in the first half with the physicality, because they left us one against one up front so we have to use those moments to feel the opponent.
The Portuguese tactician concluded, saying:
"I think we lost some balls without pressure and when you start a game like this, you score one goal, then you have to control the ball, you have to control the tempo of the game. We cannot do it at the moment but they tried, they really, really tried. I know for some guys it's hard to understand this but they're trying and they really want this."
Ruben Amorim and Manchester United will be back in action on Thursday when they visit Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. The English side currently sits in 15th place with six points from four games in the Europa League table and will be keen to improve their performance.
