“Don’t score again at my birthday against me” - Bruno Fernandes sends hilarious message to ex-Manchester United teammate Scott McTominay
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes left a hilarious comment on former Red Devils teammate Scott McTominay's recent Instagram post. The pair faced each other while representing their countries in a Nation's League fixture on Sunday, September 08.
McTominay, who joined Napoli from United last month, opened the scoring for Scotland in the seventh minute. Fernandes bagged the equalizer for Portugal nine minutes after the interval before Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner in the 88th minute.
Despite ending up on the losing side, McTominay shared a positive post for Scotland fans on Instagram and wrote:
"We are down but we must trust process of improving like we have shown these last two games. Thank you to the away fans for the incredible support."
Fernandes, who celebrated his birthday on the date of the fixture, commented on McTominay's post:
"I was already missing you my guy but don't score again at my birthday against me."
Fernandes and McTominay know each other quite well from their time at Old Trafford. The pair have shared the pitch 171 times across competitions at Manchester United, bagging three joint goal contributions.
The duo will return to club duties at the end of the week, with the Red Devils gearing up to face Southampton on Saturday, September 14. Fernandes will be expected to start this fixture for Erik ten Hag.
Meanwhile, McTominay is yet to make his first appearance for Napoli after signing for the club this summer for a reported €30.5 million.
Manchester United wish to add attacking midfielder to squad next summer- Reports
Manchester United are interested in signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2025 (via Manchester Evening News). This would seem like an interesting move, given that the Red Devils already have Bruno Fernandes operating in the position.
The 26-year-old England international is an exciting talent but is contracted with the Eagles until the summer of 2027. This means a deal for Eze will certainly not be cheap.
Although Eze could potentially play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, his place in the starting lineup will not be guaranteed, thanks to Fernandes. However, Erik ten Hag could utilize the England international on the left flank, a position he has played before.
Eze has made 128 appearances across competitions for Crystal Palace, bagging 28 goals and 17 assists.
