Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush equals incredible Lionel Messi free-kick record as he continues impressive start to Bundesliga season

Eintracht Frankfurt hotshot Omar Marmoush has emulated Lionel Messi's impressive free-kick record with his goal against Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Sunday, November 10. The Egyptian forward scored a fine free-kick to help his side pick up a 3-2 win in the clash, continuing his resounding form this season.

Marmoush has been the name on the lips of most of Europe this season, with the 25-year-old sitting atop the goalscoring charts in Germany alongside Harry Kane. He has, in recent weeks, developed a penchant for scoring free-kick goals, equalling a Lionel Messi record.

Omar Marmoush scored his side's third goal in the win over Stuttgart directly from a free-kick, scoring in such a manner for a third successive game. His effort saw him match a record previously set by none other than Lionel Messi in the 2017-18 season.

Marmoush scored free-kicks against Bochum in the Bundesliga, Slavia Prague in the Europa League, and Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, all in the space of a week. About seven seasons earlier, Lionel Messi made the record by scoring against Girona, Las Palmas, and Atletico Madrid, all in LaLiga, in successive games.

Apart from his free-kick goals, Omar Marmoush has been in scintillating form for Frankfurt this season, scoring at a hugely impressive rate. The Egyptian striker has 14 goals and 10 assists in 16 games across all competitions for his side, with 11 goals coming in 10 Bundesliga games.

Marmoush has emerged as a target for many of Europe's biggest sides due to his prolificity in front of goal this season. Alongside compatriot Mohamed Salah, the Frankfurt man is the only player in Europe to deliver double figure goals and assists in the 2024-25 season so far.

Lionel Messi breaks silence after MLS Playoff elimination

Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has shared his thoughts for the first time since his side's shock elimination from the MLS playoffs. The 37-year-old featured and was on the score sheet as the Herons bowed out against Atlanta United in the first round of the playoffs.

With the series tied at 1-1 after two games, Atlanta United secured a 3-2 victory over Inter Miami in Game Three to secure their place in the second round of the playoffs. Messi scored in the game but his efforts did not suffice, and he took to Instagram to share his thoughts.

"A season ended in which we continued to grow as a club and, although we achieved some goals, we wanted more. Thanks to all the people who joined and supported us. Now let's get ready to come back stronger next year," Messi wrote.
