England 2- 1 Slovakia: England Player Ratings as Three Lions snatch victory from the jaws of defeat to sneak into Euro 2024 quarterfinals
England recorded a 2-1 win over Slovakia in their Round of 16 encounter at Euro 2024 on Sunday, June 30. The Three Lions conceded in the 25th minute as Ivan Schranz found the back of the net and looked set to crash out of the tournament, despite being one of the favorites for the title.
However, Jude Bellingham scored an audacious bicycle kick in second-half stoppage time to send the tie into extra time. Harry Kane put the final nail in Slovakia's coffin with a goal in extra time.
England player ratings:
Jordan Pickford - 6/10
Pickford was not at his best today. The Everton goal-keeper completed 76% of his passes and made two saves.
Kyle Walker - 6/10
Walker was partially at fault for Slovakia's goal. He was caught ball-watching several times and saved only by the effectiveness of his teammates.
John Stones - 7/10
The Manchester City defender had a good game and was a cornerstone of the English defense.
Marc Guehi - 7/10
The defender received a yellow card for a bad foul early in the match, but made up for it with his alertness in the remainder of the game. While making blocks and clearances to protect his keeper is his job, his main contribution on Sunday was his assist for Bellingham's equaliser.
Kieran Trippier - 7/10
The makeshift left-back had a good game, completing 59 of his 66 attempted passes. He was subbed off due to an injury in the 66th minute.
Kobbie Mainoo - 7.5/10
The young midfielder was carded early in the game for his challenge on Slovakia's Ondrej Duda. The Manchester United man was a breath of fresh air in the English midfield.
Declan Rice - 8/10
Rice was one of England's best players on the field on Sunday. He completed 90% of his passes and all the long balls he attempted. The Arsenal midfielder was brilliant for the Three Lions.
Jude Bellingham - 9/10
The Real Madrid man stepped up in yet another big moment and scored the equalizer for his team with a bicycle kick when England had been written off. He won 75% of the tackles he attempted. His second goal at Euro 2024 sees him take his place as one of the most prolific players in the tournament.
Phil Foden - 6.5/10
The Manchester City man has struggled in his role for England, given it's not a position he's familiar with. The most memorable event in the game for him was his disallowed goal in the 50th minute.
Bukayo Saka - 7/10
Saka had a good game and even though Gareth Southgate used him as a make-shift left-back after Trippier was taken off, the Arsenal man barely put a foot wrong.
Harry Kane - 7/10
Harry Kane scored goal in the opening minute of extra time to give his team the lead and will hope to keep firing for his nation from there.
