Erik ten Hag on brink of sack as Manchester United hierarchy line up 2 candidates for coaching role: Reports

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag might be on the brink of being sacked, if reports are to be believed. Journalist Graeme Bailey of TBR Football has reported that the United hierarchy has already decided to talk to other candidates. Thomas Frank and Julian Nagelsmann are the two likely options.

Ten Hag's future seemed to be destined for failure after his wards let him down considerably in their 1-2 defeat to West Ham United on Sunday, October 27. The Red Devils missed plenty of chances in the first half and allowed the Hammers to come back strongly at the London Stadium in the second half.

A contentious penalty call by the referee and VAR allowed West Ham to bag a winner after Casemiro nullified Crysencio Summerville's 74th-minute strike. United were distraught after full-time, and Matthijs de Ligt, who conceded the penalty, was seen in an animated discussion with the match officials.

Julian Nagelsmann, currently the German national team coach, is being touted as Ten Hag's replacement alongside Brentford's Thomas Frank. The former appears to be a far more likely candidate given his rich credentials with both RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. Frank, however, has a lot of fresh ideas to offer.

TBR Football have also reported that Manchester United are willing to pay Ten Hag off in the end if it comes to that. They can also part with compensation money to land their new coach. They have gone as far as to say that the feeling within the United camp is that their manager will soon be asked to leave.

Manchester United are ranked 14th in the Premier League table

Manchester United have had a horrendous start to the Premier League (PL) this season. They have won just three out of the nine matches they have played so far. United are perched upon the lowly 14th position of the league table with just 11 points inside their kitty.

United's great matter of shame is that they have conceded 11 goals already in the PL this season while scoring just eight. They have not fared much better in Europe either, drawing all three matches that they have played so far in the ongoing UEFA Europa League.
