Erik ten Hag makes surprise first appearance days after Manchester United sack

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was spotted in the stands during the Eredivisie game between Heracles and MAC Breda on Saturday, November 2 at the Erve Asito stage. Heracles won the game 2-0, thanks to Brian De Keersmaecker's brace.

The Dutch manager was removed from his position at Old Trafford last Monday following the 2-1 loss away to West Ham United. The defeat was the Red Devils' fifth in 14 games across competitions this season.

Manchester United opted for a change following one of their worst starts to a season, which saw the team win just four games across competitions. The Red Devils are 13th in the league table after nine games and have scored just eight goals in the league.

Ten Hag took charge at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022, arriving as one of the brightest managers in world football. The Dutch manager was coming off a hugely successful stint with Ajax and enjoyed a decent start to his Manchester United reign.

He won the EFL Cup, helped the team finish third in the league, and also reached the FA Cup final. However, things began to fall apart in his second season at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils finishing eighth in the Premier League.

Ten Hag may have only managed to keep his job due to the FA Cup win over Manchester City at Wembley. New minority owners INEOS invested heavily in the squad over the summer, but his failure to produce results on the pitch ultimately cost Ten Hag his job.

Ruud van Nistelrooy remains in charge of the first team on an interim basis. The Premier League giants have already appointed Ruben Amorim as Ten Hag's replacement. The Portuguese will take charge at Old Trafford on November 11.

Ruben Amorim will take charge at Manchester United during the international break. The Sporting manager is highly rated in the European circuit, but will have a job on his hands at Old Trafford.

His first game in charge of the Red Devils is likely to be away to Ipswich Town on November 24 in the Premier League. For now, though, Ruud van Nistelrooy remains in charge at Old Trafford and has enjoyed a decent start to his interim tenure.

The Dutchman guided Manchester United to a 5-2 win over Leicester City in the EFL Cup Fourth Round in midweek. Nistelrooy is now preparing to face Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.
