Erling Haaland spotted throwing ball at Gabriel’s head as video before argument among Arsenal and Manchester City players emerge
Footage has emerged of Manchester City ace Erling Haaland hurling the ball at Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes in the immediate aftermath of City's late equaliser. The two sides played out a 2-2 draw at the Etihad in the Premier League on Sunday, September 22. The end of the match between both sides was marred by a scuffle between both sets of players in what was a charged atmosphere.
First and second in each of the last two Premier League seasons, Manchester City and Arsenal were both out for blood at the Etihad Stadium. The Gunners were seconds away from nicking what would have been a famous win against the champions despite playing the entire second half a man down. Their defensive display in the second period was brilliant, with Gabriel and William Saliba keeping Haaland quiet.
Erling Haaland showed his frustration by throwing the ball at the head of Gabriel after the Cityzens finally broke the Gunners' resistance. Both men squared off after the match restarted, when the Norwegian striker barged into Thomas Partey, sending the Arsenal man into the turf. The tie descended into a full-on scuffle afterwards, with pushing and shoving between both teams.
Both sides had to be satisfied with a point apiece at the end of a thrilling encounter which further underpins the rivalry between both sides. Leandro Trossard's sending off in the first half added time proved to be a major game-changer, as it made the second half very one-sided.
Haaland (9') opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola's side before goals from Riccardo Calafiori (22') and Gabriel (45+1') turned the game on its head by half-time. The Cityzens came out guns blazing for the second half buoyed by their one-man advantage. They eventually found a late leveler through substitute John Stones.
Erling Haaland nets 100th Manchester City goal in draw against Arsenal
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland continued his fine start to the season as he scored his 10th league goal and his 100th in a City shirt. The 23-year-old was on the scoresheet for the champions as they battled to a 2-2 draw at home to challengers Arsenal.
Having failed to score in the UEFA Champions League against Inter Milan in midweek, Haaland needed just nine minutes to register an effort against the Gunners. The forward latched onto a through ball from Savinho before poking an effort past David Raya in the Arsenal goal.
Erling Haaland has now scored 100 goals for the Cityzens in 105 appearances since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. In that time, he has won the treble, as well as two Premier League Golden Boot awards, and broken the league's single-season scoring record.
He also equaled Cristiano Ronaldo's record of scoring 100 goals for a club in 105 games, with the Portuguese having done it for Real Madrid.
