Erling Haaland wins 2023-24 Premier League Golden Boot after finishing the season with 27 goals
Erling Haaland has won the 2023-24 Premier League Golden Boot, as he ended the season with 27 goals, helping Manchester City secure the league title for the fourth consecutive time. The forward has also picked up his second consecutive Golden Boot, which is handed to the highest goalscorer in England's top tier.
Last season, the Norwegian striker scored a record-breaking 36 goals in just 35 Premier League games. This season, he finished five goals ahead of second-placed Cole Palmer, who moved from Manchester City to Chelsea in the summer.
The last time a player won consecutive Golden Boots was in 2016 and 2017, when Harry Kane ended the seasons with 25 goals and 29 goals, respectively. The England international has now left Tottenham and is plying his trade with Bayern Munich. Kane recorded 36 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances in his debut season with the Bavarian giants.
Erling Haaland, though, will be looking to continue his dominance when he returns to the Premier League next season to defend his award. The striker will be expected to win his third consecutive Golden Boot with the Cityzens, but time will tell if he rises to the occasion.
Erling Haaland discusses Manchester City's fourth title in a row
Scoring 27 out of the 96 goals Manchester City scored to win the Premier League title, Erling Haaland has certainly been one of their most valuable players. The towering Norwegian has been responsible for almost 30% of City's league goals this season, which is truly impressive.
Speaking about life in the Premier League, the 23-year-old said (via The BBC):
"It has been harder than I expected. In every game it is not like a final but it is not far away. You come away somewhere or even at home you can't relax. Every game is so intense and tough. It's a bit demanding at times [playing for Pep Guardiola]. It is tough, but look what he has done!"
"He demands a lot every single day. If you do not live up to what he expects you have a big problem. He is demanding and he is a lovely guy and I love him to pieces."
Manchester City's season is still not over though, as they still have to face rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final. Erling Haaland will be looking to make an impact as the Cityzens hope to add another trophy to their cabinet.
