“Erling scoring again ... it's starting to make us laugh” - Arsenal star makes bold claim on Erling Haaland’s form ahead of Manchester City clash
Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is not concerned by Manchester City striker Erling Haaland's sizzling form. The 24-year-old has started the season on a tear, scoring in all four Premier League outings.
After scoring in City's 2-0 opening-day win at Chelsea, Haaland blasted hat-tricks in the 4-1 home win over newly promoted Ipswich Town and a 3-1 win at West Ham United. He then bagged a brace as City beat Brentford 2-1 at home at the weekend.
The City man is on the cusp of 100 goals for the club, having amassed 99 in 102 outings since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022. Haaland could reach the milestone in City's UEFA Champions League opener at home to Inter Milan on Wednesday or their Premier League home meeting with Arsenal four days later.
Ahead of the trip to the four-time defending champions this weekend, Jorginho said about Haaland's form (as per ESPN):
"Erling scoring again ... it is starting to make us laugh. We look because we watch all the games, and we love the Premier League. We watch (City) as well, which is normal. It doesn't get to our head. We need to focus on us, and that is what we are trying to do."
The Gunners are right behind City in the league standings after four games, having won 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend to move within two points of the leaders.
How has Manchester City hitman Erling Haaland fared against Arsenal?
Erling Haaland has had a superb stint with Manchester City, approaching a century of goals for the reigning Premier League champions. That includes two goals and as many assists in six outings against Arsenal.
Both goal contributions against the Gunners have come in four games in the Premier League, with Haaland drawing blanks in one match each in the FA Cup and the FA Community Shield.
Haaland scored in City's 3-1 league win at the Etihad in the 2022-23 season and bagged a goal and an assist in the 4-1 victory at the Etihad. However, the 24-year-old drew blanks as Pep Guardiola's side stumbled 1-0 at the Gunners last season and drew goalless at home.
The two setbacks eventually didn't matter, as City edged out Mikel Arteta's side by two points on the final day to win an unprecedented Premier League four-peat, with Haaland helping himself to consecutive Premier League Golden Boot awards.
