Euro 2024: Ex-Real Madrid boss Fabio Capello picks 30-year-old star as golden boot winner

Former England manager Fabio Capello has backed Harry Kane to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2024. He said that he supports the Three Lions and hopes Kane wins the award.

England come into Euro 2024 with high expectations, boasting a star-studded squad, including Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and more. They are captained by Harry Kane, who is widely regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation. He won the Golden Boot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and will look to repeat his exploits at the Euros and help his side lift the trophy.

In a recent interview with Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, Fabio Capello made his pick for the Golden Boot winner, saying:

“I hope [Harry] Kane for England because I support them. I’m Italian but I support England, so him.”

Kane, 30, has been in prolific form, as he registered 44 goals and 12 assists in 45 games across competitions for Bayern Munich last season. England's all-time top scorer (63 goals) also won the European Golden Shoe with 36 goals in 32 Bundesliga games.

The Three Lions, meanwhile, began their Euro 2024 campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Serbia on Sunday, June 16. Jude Bellingham scored the only goal of the game in the 13th minute.

Jude Bellingham has been one of the best players in the world since he moved to Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund last summer for €103 million. He scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists in 42 games across competitions to help Los Blancos win three trophies, including the UEFA Champions League.

Bellingham continued his form with England as he scored the winner in their 1-0 win against Serbia in their Euro 2024 opener. After the game, Phil Foden heaped praise on the midfielder and also spoke about their link-up on the pitch, saying (via Mirror):

“Jude’s obviously an exceptional talent. He carries himself really well. He’s a leader now, I think he’s turning into a leader. ‌I think our link up play is good at times and I think it’s improving as well and can keep getting better. So he’s an exciting talent and I enjoy playing with him.”‌

England currently sit atop Group C, which also comprises Denmark, Serbia, and Slovenia. The Three Lions will next face Denmark on Thursday, June 20.
