Euro 2024: Lamine Yamal scores stunning long-range goal for Spain, becomes youngest player to score in the Euros

Lamine Yamal has become the youngest player to score in the Euros following his amazing long-range goal for Spain in the Euro 2024 semi-final with France. The match is ongoing at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, on Tuesday (July 9).

France opened the scoring through forward Randal Kolo Muani from an assist by Kylian Mbappe in the eighth minute. Yamal netted Spain's equaliser with a curling strike towards the top corner.

The ball hit the goalpost before finding the back of the net in the 21st minute. The 16-year-old winger's strike came from an assist by captain Alvaro Morata, making Yamal the youngest scorer in the Euro finals.

At the age of 16 years and 362 days, he has broken late Brazil legend Pelé (17 years and 239 days at the 1958 FIFA World Cup) as the youngest scorer at a major tournament.

Yamal is also the youngest player to appear in the European Championship after starting for Spain in their 3-0 opening Euro 2024 win over Croatia. He also broke another record in that match by becoming the youngest assist provider in Euros history.

Coming back to the current game, La Roja took the lead four minutes after Yamal's strike, with Dani Olmo's effort in the 25th minute diverted into his own net by Jules Kounde as La Roja led 2-1 at the break.

France defender Jules Kounde heaped praise on Spain's Lamine Yamal ahead of Euro 2024 semi-final

France defender Jules Kounde praised Lamine Yamal while warning his teammates about the 16-year-old's prowess. He referred to his Barcelona teammate as the biggest danger (via @Barca_Buzz on X):

“Lamine is a big part of the danger of the Spanish national team, but I would say that the biggest danger is the team as a whole. He is incredible. I think to have had a season like his at such a young age and with all the expectations and pressure that he has, it’s really incredible.”

Lamine Yamal, who made his senior debut for Spain in 2023, has netted two goals and provided seven assists in 12 appearances. If La Roja qualify for the Euro 2024 final, he will become the youngest finalist in tournament history.
