Euro 2024: Nico Williams gives Spain lead against England after half-time Rodri substitution
Nico Williams gave Spain the lead against England at the beginning of the second half following midfielder Rodri's substitution in the Euro 2024 final. The match took place at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany (Sunday, July 14).
After a goalless first half, La Roja head coach Luis de la Fuente made the first substitution of the match. He replaced Rodri, who seemed to have picked up an injury, with Martín Zubimendi in the 46th minute. Nico Williams opened the scoring for Spain from an assist by Lamine Yamal two minutes later.
In the 25th minute of the first half, England national team captain Harry Kane received a yellow card. Meanwhile, Spanish forward Dani Olmo was given his first booking in the 31st minute.
As of the 70th minute, La Roja maintained 64% ball possession while the Three Lions had 36%. Spain also had more passes (431) and a higher pass accuracy (89%). England equalized in the 73rd with a goal from Cole Palmer, who substituted Kobbie Mainoo just a few minutes before. The equalizer was assisted by Jude Bellingham.
The Three Lions have been the UEFA European Championship runners-up in 2020 and ended up in third place twice in 1968 and 1996. However, they are yet to claim the title. La Roja have won the tournament thrice in 1964, 2008, and 2012.

After starting in Spain's Euro 2024 final against England, Lamine Yamal broke Brazilian legend Pele's record. He became the youngest player to participate in the final of a major tournament.
After appearing in the Euro 2024 final at the age of 17 years and 1 day, Yamal crossed late Pele's record from the 1958 World Cup. The former Brazilian forward first appeared in the tournament at the age of 17 years and 249 days.
Lamine Yamal broke a bunch of records at Euro 2024, starting with his debut which made him the youngest player to appear in the European Championship. He then became the youngest assist provider and goal scorer in the tournament's history. He is also the youngest finalist in the tournament's history.
