Euro 2024: Spain crowned champions after Mikel Oyarzabal scores 86th minute winner
Spain have been crowned the Euro 2024 champions after forward Mikel Oyarzabal scored the winner in the 86th minute against England. The final ended in a 2-1 win for La Roja on Sunday, June 14, at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany.
Following a goalless first half, Spain opened the scoring through Nico Williams in the 47th minute, who was set-up brilliantly by Lamine Yamal. England found their equalizer in the 73rd via Chelsea's Cole Palmer, assisted by Jude Bellingham. Palmer netted the goal just three minutes after he replaced Kobbie Mainoo on the pitch.
Mikel Oyarzabal scored the winning goal for Spain in the 86th minute, tapping home Marc Cucurella's low cross from close range.
La Roja claimed their fourth UEFA European Championship title, while head coach Luis de la Fuente, who took charge in 2022, became the first manager to win the Under-19 Euros, Under-21 Euros, Nations League, and European Championship.

After starting for Spain in their Euro 2024 final against England, Lamine Yamal broke Brazilian legend Pele's record, becoming the youngest player to participate in the final of a major tournament.
The Barcelona star made the record at the age of 17 years and 1 day, breaking Pele's record from the 1958 World Cup final at the age of 17 years and 249 days.
Lamine Yamal broke a bunch of records at Euro 2024, starting with his debut, which made him the youngest player to appear in the European Championships. He also became the youngest assist provider and goal scorer in the tournament's history. With La Roja's win against England, he is also the youngest winner in the tournament's history.
