"Even in the games where the team hasn't done so well, he's always shown his quality" - Evra praises Manchester United star's performances
Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra lauded Diogo Dalot for having a strong 2023-24 season. The Frenchman appreciated the Portugal international for his industrious outings despite a tough season for the Red Devils.
Speaking to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, he said:
"Even in the games where the team hasn't done so well, he's always shown his quality. He has incredible physical strength and isn't afraid to take on 1-on-1 or even 2-on-1 situations, he always accepts the challenge.
"For me, these are the fundamental characteristics that a full-back should have. In addition, Diogo is a very good person and a humble boy."
Dalot has been a silver lining in what has been a poor season for Manchester United. He has played at both left-back and right-back this season and his defensive prowess and contributions going forward have been useful for the team. He has made 48 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and setting up five more.
However, the Red Devils have still had a torrid time defensively. They have conceded 84 goals this term across competitions, the most they have let in since the 1976-77 season. 58 goals conceded in the Premier League this season has also contributed to their negative goal difference of -3, something that could work against them in the race for Europe.
Transfer guru provides update on Premier League star linked to Manchester United
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Manchester United's pursuit of Crystal Palace attacker Michael Olise. He claimed that the side's interest in the player could depend on their managerial situation.
Romano added that the player had been viewed as a target for a long time by the Red Devils. He said (via GiveMeSport):
“Man Utd want to be there, so United are informed on the release clause and informed on the conditions of the deal.
“So let’s see when they will attack the situation again. The situation will be important to understand what is going to be the plan, because obviously you have to involve the manager if you want to make a proper plan.
“But at the same time Olise remains a player who is really appreciated at Manchester United, also by people on the scouting team since one year ago.”
Olise has been in brilliant form for Crystal Palace after missing the early part of the season with an injury. He has bagged 10 goals and five assists in just 18 league games.
The 22-year-old was linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer but ended up signing a four-year extension with the Eagles. He could be an attractive option for Manchester United at right-wing, where Antony has struggled to impose himself.
