"Every day it is clearer to me" - Journalist provides update on Luka Modric's future at Real Madrid
Journalist Jose Felix Diaz has provided an update on Luka Modric's future at Real Madrid. He reckons that the midfielder is set to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for yet another season.
The 38-year-old legendary midfielder has been one of the best players in the world for well over a decade. He has seen a severe reduction in his playing time at the club due to the emergence of Los Blancos' next generation. However, the Croatian superstar has continued to impress whenever called upon.
This season, with his appearances often coming from the bench, Modric has played 28 La Liga games, registering two goals and four assists. He has also been a regular part of their UEFA Champions League run this season, playing eight games in the continental competition.
Due to his limited significance in the squad, there have been rumors that Luka Modric would have to leave the Santiago Bernabeu. However, according to Jose Felix Diaz, he looks set to continue his stay at the club. The journalist said (via Madrid Xtra):
"How long have I been saying it... many people had already retired him, many had already dropped him, that we had to wait, wait and wait... Every day it is clearer to me, the percentage of Modric continuing at Real Madrid is now very high.
"I've not had any doubt. My feeling is that you all retired Modric without reasons. Modric has not yet said his last words at Real Madrid."
Modric's contract with Real Madrid is set to expire in the summer.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti reveals Arda Guler's future remains at the club
There have been rumors that Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler could leave the Bernabeu on loan in the summer. As with Luka Modric, Guler has also found playing time difficult to come by in the star-studded squad. However, It seems as though the 19-year-old will continue to play alongside his 38-year-old teammate.
Guler has scored two goals in just eight appearances across competitions since arriving from Fenerbahce last summer. Speaking after he scored the only goal in their win over Real Sociedad on April 26, Carlo Ancelotti told the press that the teenager will stay at the club. He said (via GOAL):
"There's no doubt he'll [Guler] stay here next year. I think they did very well. They've performed well on the pitch. He's battled, he's fought. He's staying next year, there's no doubt about it.
"He is very young. Little by little he will have his role. It's quite clear that he has scored more goals than minutes played. That's the gift he has."
Guler will be looking to establish himself in a squad that has racked up an impressive roster of young talents in nearly every position. Following his goal against Sociedad, he can expect more playing time as La Liga comes to a close in the next month.
