Ex-Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov names his favorites to win Euro 2024
Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes England are favorites to win the Euro 2024. In an X (formerly Twitter) post made by the Red Devils' social media account, the club seemingly asked Berbatov who would win the tournament this time. Replying to the question, the ex-attacker wrote with an England flag:
"It's time."
However, other former stars shared different opinions. Patrice Evra named France as the favorites while Juan Mata believes Spain will emerge victorious.
The Three Lions enter the tournament on the back of some impressive displays at the international level. In Euro 2020, they made it to the final but lost 3-2 on penalties to Italy following a 1-1 draw in normal time.
Gareth Southgate's men also reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where eventual runners-up France knocked them out 2-1.
England's front three have been in brilliant form this season. Leading the line will be Harry Kane, who has netted 44 goals and provided 12 assists in 45 games across competitions for Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Bukayo Saka enjoyed yet another stellar campaign with Arsenal, which saw him score 20 goals and assist 14 across competitions in 47 matches. Lastly, Manchester City's Phil Foden helped his team win the Premier League this season, scoring 19 goals and assisting eight in 35 games of the competition.
Chris Sutton backs England to win their Euro 2024 opener
England will kickstart their Euro 2024 campaign in a Group C match against Serbia on Sunday (June 16). Ahead of the tie, pundit Chris Sutton believes The Three Lions will comfortably win this contest.
He has also predicted Gareth Southgate's team to go deep into the competition and eventually crash out in the semi-finals. Predicting a 2-0 scoreline for the match against Serbia, Sutton said (via BBC Sport):
"Serbia have got some talented attackers, but I am expecting England to have too much firepower for them, and to start their Euro 2024 with a clean sheet."
Southgate has left out star players like Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish from his squad for the upcoming tournament. The Manchester United attacker did not have a great season, registering just seven Premier League goals and two assists in 33 games. Meanwhile, Grealish netted just thrice and assisted once in 20 Premier League outings.
