“F*** sake”, “Yeah we had a fallout!” - Roy Keane admits he didn’t get along with ex-Manchester United hero after Gary Neville confronts him on it
Roy Keane has revealed that he had an altercation with Manchester United icon Teddy Sheringham. The pundit admitted that the pair were far from the best of friends during their time at United.
Sheringham arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 1997 from Tottenham Hotspur and spent four seasons in Manchester before returning to the north London outfit on a free transfer. He was a part of the legendary Manchester United side that won the treble under Sir Alex Ferguson during the 1998-99 campaign. During his time at Old Trafford, Sheringham registered 153 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 46 goals and providing 31 assists.
During a recent interview on ITV Sport, Keane and Neville were playing a game that involved guessing their old teammates without clues like numbers or positions. While trying to describe Sheringham, Neville hilariously told Keane:
"You didn't like him... that could be anybody! Jeez, I've got a list [this long]."
To which, the former Manchester United midfielder replied with a sheepish look on his face:
"No, you shouldn't say I didn't like him. F*** sake."
Roy Keane then went on to guess the player's name and said:
"Jordi [Cruyff]? Teddy [Sheringham]?"
Neville then revealed Sheringham was the answer, following which Keane said:
"No that's wrong, I didn't mind Teddy, I just didn't get on with him."
When teased about his answer, Keane said:
"Yeah we had a fall out! But that's just working [together]"
Apart from the treble in '99, Sheringham won two Premier League titles at Manchester United.
"I don’t think he should be the number one priority" - Teddy Sheringham urges Manchester United not to sign 24-year-old star
Teddy Sheringham has urged Manchester United not to sign Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer. The retired forward believes the Dutchman would not strengthen the club's squad at the moment.
The Red Devils are in the market for a center-back this window with the departure of Raphael Varane. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are closing in on a deal to secure De Ligt's services.
United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly in contact with the 24-year-old, whom he coached during their time at Ajax. He has presented the Dutchman, who played 70 games under him, with a project.
However, Sheringham believes De Ligt lacks the Premier League experience that United currently require in the center-back position. He said (via GOAL):
“I don’t know if Matthijs de Ligt would be a good addition to the United defence. I think United need some experience in their back line, ideally someone with Premier League experience. He’s obviously a very good player and we all remember him from his time at Ajax, but I don’t think he should be the number one priority at the moment for the club."
De Ligt made 30 appearances across competitions for Bayern Munich last season.
