Fabrizio Romano issues update on Manchester United's reported pursuit of PSG superstar Neymar Jr
Reports recently emerged that Manchester United are pursuing the signature of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward Neymar Jr. in the summer.
The Parisians are reportedly looking to part ways with the Brazilian and United have emerged as a shock destination. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, however, has now claimed that there have been no talks ongoing between the two clubs.
He claimed on Twitter:
"No negotiations ongoing between Man United and PSG for Neymar Júnior, as of now. Nothing concrete, no talks… at least with current owners/board. PSG already discussed Neymar’s exit internally, looking for a solution in the summer."
The PSG attacker has scored 18 goals and provided 17 assists in 29 games this season before being ruled out after undergoing surgery for an injury.
He joined the French club from Barcelona in 2017 for a world record transfer fee of €222 million. He has since scored 118 goals and provided 77 assists in 193 matches for the PSG.
Louis Saha warned Manchester United about signing PSG superstar Neymar Jr
The Brazilian attacker is one of the biggest superstars in world football and is an immensely talented player. However, his lifestyle and injury-prone nature is something that has often come under scrutiny from fans and experts likewise.
Louis Saha recently gave the Red Devils a reminder about the same. He claimed that it might not be easy for manager Erik ten Hag to handle the forward at Manchester United. Writing for OLBG, Saha claimed:
"Neymar has been the superstar, which is substantially due to his talent but it can also be hard to manage. He was definitely of that status in Barcelona, but maybe that has changed over the years. He could be difficult to manage. With all due respect, I don't think he can adapt, but he will have to."
He added:
"This current formula he has provided to PSG has not worked at all. His fitness has let him down in the last four months of the season - which is the most crucial part. It could be down to lifestyle or just how he is - but at Manchester United, they would expect much more from him because of his enormous price tag."
Neymar is still 31 and has perhaps a lot of miles left in him but his injury history isn't too promising. However, he could still be a great addition to any club, including Manchester United. The saga regarding his future can be expected to gain momentum in the coming months.
