England fans were far from impressed after they watched their side labor to a 1-1 draw against Denmark in their second match at Euro 2024 on June 20. The Three Lions were, for a second straight game, well below par as they managed to pick up a point in Frankfurt.
Gareth Southgate's side scraped a 1-0 win over Serbia in their opening Group C match at the tournament, attracting criticism for their performance. Fans and pundits alike also questioned the wisdom of the manager's selections for the game, but he stuck to his guns against Denmark.
Like they were for a significant chunk of the Serbia game, England were second-best against Denmark, who arguably deserved the win on the day. English football fans took to X to share their thoughts on the game and the manager, Gareth Southgate.
A fan advised that Southgate be sacked for the team to win the trophy.
"Sack SouthGate and it will be home . Period"
Another fan said that the manager should be sacked for not playing Chelsea's Cole Palmer and Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo.
"Sack Southgate immediately. Benching Cole Palmer and Kobbie Mainoo again!!!"
Another fan repeated the same line, saying that the team stands a better chance of winning without Southgate.
"We’d be more likely to win this tournament if we sack Southgate now and let the players manage themselves. Awful."
England remain in top of Group C despite the draw, having picked up four points from a possible six so far. Denmark are second and have picked up two points so far, as have Slovenia, who drew 1-1 against Serbia earlier in the day.
Harry Kane on target as England play out draw with Denmark
England captain Harry Kane opened his Euro 2024 account as his country drew 1-1 with Denmark in Frankfurt. The Three Lions were far from their best against a Denmark side that seemed unlucky to have not ended up with all three points.
Bayern Munich star Kane scored his first goal of the tournament to open the scoring from close range in the 18th minute before the Three Lions ceded control. Premier League-linked midfielder Morten Hjulmand equalised for Denmark in the first half with a firm drive from outside the box in the 34th minute.
Denmark pressed forward in the second period but failed to find a way past the English rearguard. Phil Foden struck the frame of the goal before he was taken off as both sides settled for a point apiece.
