Flamengo club president reveals when Neymar Jr will return to action after long-term injury

Flamengo president Rodolfo Landim has spoken about Neymar Jr, claiming that the Brazilian forward will return to action in September after a long-term injury. The 32 -year-old is on his way to recovery, following an injury that has kept him on the sidelines for nearly a year.

Neymar ruptured his ACL and meniscus while playing for Brazil against Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier back in October 2023. He has since been on the sidelines and underwent surgery in November 2023.

However, according to Rodolfo Landim, Neymar believes he will back to full fitness by mid-September. The Flamengo president told Charla Podcast (via GOAL):

"I walk down the street and people ask me when I'm going to sign Neymar. And I say: 'Guys, Neymar earns more per month than two Flamengo salaries.' People don't realise the magnitude of things, the amounts involved. The unofficial information is that he earns 70 million per month."
"I think Neymar is absolutely outstanding, a top player in the world. We have to see how he recovers, but I think he'll recover well because he's a light player. I met him in the locker room and said that he thinks he'll be back in full condition by mid-September."

Notably, the Brazilian footballer has publicly shared his love for Flamengo, claiming that they came only second to Santos in his heart. He is under contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal until the summer of 2025 and made only five appearances for the club before suffering the unfortunate injury.

Neymar Jr will be hoping to return to full fitness for Brazil

Neymar missed out on Copa America 2024 due to the aforementioned knee injury and the Selecao were knocked out of the tournament's quarterfinals by Uruguay.

The Al-Hilal forward has earned 128 caps for Brazil and is the country's all-time leading goalscorer with 79 goals. Neymar made his debut for the national team at the age of 18 and will go down as a legend for his country, but he hasn't been able to secure a major international trophy with the side.

Neymar will be 34 years old when the 2026 FIFA World Cup comes around, and it could potentially be his last chance to lead his country to an international title.
