"Follow your father" - Spain star Lamine Yamal jokingly calls Euro 2024 teammate his 'son' on social media

Spanish star Lamine Yamal recently jokingly called his Euro 2024 teammate his 'son' in a recent post on social media. The player in question is Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, a close friend of the 16-year-old, who plays for Barcelona.

Despite being five years apart in age, Williams and Yamal share a close friendship that has translated to chemistry on the pitch. The duo has been integral to the Spanish effort at the ongoing European Championships in Germany. They have produced some of the most exciting moments on the pitch at the tournament.

The Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao wingers made their debuts for La Roja a year apart and have played 28 games for the country between them. They have become inseparable on and off the pitch. After being pictured training together, Yamal shared on his Instagram story:

"Son follow your father"

to a picture of Williams behind him in training.

Lamine Yamal will hope to keep the fun times going with his teammate on Friday (July 5) when Spain faces Germany in the Quarterfinals of Euro 2024. La Roja will be confident facing the hosts in light of their good record against them in the last decade. The Barcelona starlet will hope to have an impact in the game.

Germany star Ilkay Gundogan praises Spain duo of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams ahead of Euro 2024 clash

Germany international midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has praised Spain's Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams ahead of their Euro 2024 quarterfinal clash. The duo has been a breath of fresh air in the tournament and looks set to present the tournament hosts with a tough challenge.

The German midfielder said to Mundo Deportivo:

“[Yamal] is a fantastic player at 16, he could be 20 or 21 and he’d still be the same. He’s arguably one of the most talented young players around right now. I’ve really enjoyed him this season, he’s got a great future ahead of him. It will be important to protect him from the pressure that’s building up around him.
“He is also very talented and has a bold approach to the game which I also see in Lamine. These are young players who seemingly play without pressure on the big stage, and to me that is something to admire. I wish I had that kind of attitude at his age!”

The German will hope Lamine Yamal, who plays alongside him for Barcelona doesn't have a good game against him in their Euro 2024 clash. Both teams will be keen to secure victory against each other and eventually be crowned winners of the tournament in Berlin on July 14.
