"Forgot to play the game", "Worst game I've ever seen" - Fans unhappy with Real Madrid star's performance in loss to Lille

Fans were left disappointed with star forward Kylian Mbappe's performance in Real Madrid's 1-0 loss to Lille in the UEFA Champions League's league phase on Wednesday (October 2). Mbappe was named in the squad after missing the Madrid derby in La Liga due to a muscle injury.

Kylian Mbappe came on in the 57th minute, replacing Brazilian forward Endrick. During his 33 minutes on the pitch, the Frenchman failed to record any shots on target and completed only 62% of his passes.

Los Blancos fans took to X to criticize Mbappe for his poor display, with many dubbing it as his worst performance to date. One X user shared his statistics from Sofascore, and wrote:

"Broski just forgot to play the game."
"There’s no reason to buy Mbappe when you have Vini Jr. Mbappe has disbalanced the team," another fan added.
"Mbappe arrived and they got worse LMFAOAO," another opined.
"Mbappe is a very inconsistent player. Anyone who watched ligue 1 knows it," a user commented.

Some fans dubbed Mbappe's performance against Lille as one of the worst displays of his career. A fan wrote on X:

"I actually believe that’s the wor$t Mbappe game I’ve seen 😭😭"
"Kylian Mbappe cant do it even against French farmers anymore, he might be past his prime," a netizen joked.
"Haaland >>> Mbappe any day," a fan wrote.
"Real Madrid signed Kylian Mbappe and got worse," a user quipped.

Los Blancos's 1-0 loss to Lille marked their first defeat in the Champions League this season, after they began their campaign with a 3-1 win over VfB Stuttgart. They will next face Borussia Dortmund in the UCL league phase on October 22.

"We were bad under every aspect" - Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti makes feelings clear after 1-0 loss to Lille

Speaking to the media in the post-match press conference, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti admitted that his side was bad in every aspect. He said (via Madrid Xtra):

"It's difficult to analyse this game. We were bad under every aspect. We didn't create, the possession was slow, no ideas. Our forwards need a more vertical game. This could be a problem when you're slow. This was a bad game. We showed a bad image, bad feelings. No excuses, we were bad. We must improve."

Ancelotti also referred to Real Madrid's 4-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in January last season in the Copa del Rey Round of 16, hoping the loss against Lille would help the Spanish giants improve much like the loss in the Madrid derby.

Ancelotti also praised Lille for their motivation, explaining that the French side did not surprise him with their intensity. He added that the Ligue 1 club deserved to win despite believing his side could have managed a draw.
