Former Liverpool star set to become Borussia Dortmund's new manager following Edin Terzic's exit - Reports

Former Liverpool midfielder Nuri Sahin is reportedly the favorite to replace Edin Terzic as the manager of Borussia Dortmund. The UEFA Champions League finalists are set to appoint a new manager to lead the team into the 2024-25 season.

A fan of the club, Terzic worked as a scout under Jürgen Klopp before taking on the assistant manager's role under Lucien Favre. He was appointed as the interim manager when Favre was sacked in the 2020-21 season. Terzic was appointed as the permanent manager in May 2022, and he drafted Sahin and Lars Bender into his coaching crew in December 2023.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Nuri Sahin is the leading candidate to become the new Borussia Dortmund manager and has the board's confidence. The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund midfielder has had experience as a first-team manager in Turkey.

Sahin began his managerial career at Antalyaspor in 2021, while he was contracted to the club as a player. He turned down a player-manager role to take on the role of the manager fully, helping the side avoid relegation from the Turkish Super Lig.

During his playing career, the 35-year-old featured for Borussia Dortmund, where he broke records as the youngest player to feature and score in Bundesliga. He also played for Real Madrid and had a five-month spell as a Liverpool player, where he played just 12 times.

Sahin won the Bundesliga with Dortmund under Jürgen Klopp and also won the league's Player of the Season award. He won 52 caps with Turkey and remains the youngest player to score on his debut for the European country.
