The France captain sustained a nose injury in their Euro 2024 opener against Austria on Monday, June 17 at the Merkur Spiel Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. In the last minutes of the match, the 25-year-old forward had a bad collision with Austrian defender Kevin Danso. He fell to the ground with a bleeding nose.
Following the Blues' 1-0 win against Austria, the French Football Federation (FFF) provided an update on Mbappe’s nose. They noted that Mbappe had suffered a nose fracture and would have to wear a mask for medical purposes on the pitch during the tournament.

France national team head coach Didier Deschamps provided an update on Kylian Mbappe's availability for the upcoming Euro 2024 match against Netherlands. He said (via RMC Sport):
"Everything is going in the right direction after a major shock that he has had with the consequences of course. Yesterday, he was able to go out and do some activities. That will also be the case tonight. It's moving in the right direction to make sure it can be available tomorrow."
Speaking about Kylian Mbappe's mask, head coach Didier Deschamps said (via RMC Sport):
