Gary Neville explains how missing Manchester based star is the cause for England’s Euro 2024 struggles

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has blamed England's troubles at Euro 2024 on the absence of Luke Shaw. The Three Lions have looked far from convincing at the tournament in Germany and a good deal of that is thanks to their one-sided attack.

England have played without a natural left-sided player on that side of the pitch, leading to all their attacks being telegraphed down the right. The former player-turned-pundit spoke on ITV about how the defender's absence was being felt at the continental competition, saying:

“That left side has been blocked. When Phil Foden comes inside, the biggest problem is we don’t have a natural left-footed left-back going outside him. Luke Shaw is such an important player, We’ve missed that badly [at the Euros]."

Luke Shaw been a vital part of the England team since debuting in 2014, making 31 appearances for the Three Lions while scoring thrice and assisting nine goals. England will hope they can manage without Shaw at Euro 2024 and win the competition despite their difficulties.

Phil Foden believes England players share the blame for poor performances at Euro 2024

Manchester City forward Phil Foden believes the players should be blamed for his side's poor performances at Euro 2024. The Three Lions have failed to impress so far, never scoring more than one goal in 90 minutes at the tournament.

The English were tipped as the favorites to lift the trophy in Germany but the Euro 2020 finalists have not looked convincing. Foden believes the England players should take their share of the blame for the side's performances at Euro 2024, saying (via SPORTbible):

“The players have got to take some of the blame. There has to be some leaders to get together and find out a solution to why it is not working. There is only so much the manager can do. He sets you up in a system and tells you how to press. If it is not going like that, you have to [work it out]."
“I feel sorry for Gareth [Southgate]. In training, he has been telling us to press and be high up on the pitch and I feel like sometimes, it has to come from the players. We have to be leaders. In games, we could have got together a little bit more and worked out a solution."

Foden will be keen to help his country improve their showing in their next Euro 2024 clash at Euro 2024 against Switzerland in the quarter-finals on July 5.
