Gerard Pique takes cheeky dig at Real Madrid after Barcelona's 4-0 win at Santiago Bernabeu
Former Barcelona star Gerard Pique took a dig at Real Madrid after La Blaugrana's 4-0 win in El Clasico in LaLiga on Saturday (October 26). The victory marked Barca's first one after four consecutive El Clasico losses.
The first half ended goalless but Robert Lewandowski gave Barcelona the lead by scoring twice within two minutes in the second half (54' and 56'). Further goals from Lamine Yamal (77') and Raphinha (84') sealed the 4-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Blaugrana legend Gerard Pique took to X (formerly Twitter) after the game to seemingly take a dig at Real Madrid, writing (translation from Catalan via Google):
"We are unique. They can never be like us. With all the young people of La Masia. What a recital. What pride."
Gerard Pique began his career at Barca's famed youth academy, La Masia. In 2004, he left the academy to sign his first professional contract with Manchester United. However, the Spanish legend returned to his boyhood club in 2008 and represented them until his retirement from professional football in 2022.
Widely considered a club legend, Pique recorded 53 goals and seven assists in 616 appearances for Barcelona. He won 30 titles with La Blaugrana, including three Champions Leagues, eight LaLigas and seven Copa del Reys among others (All data as per Barcelona's official website).
Pique has faced Real Madrid 42 times in his professional career, recording 19 wins, 13 losses and 10 draws. Two of the 42 times came while he was on loan at Real Zaragoza from Manchester United, while all other games were El Clasicos. The center-back has two goals and two assists against Los Blancos.
Barcelona legend Gerard Pique predicted the exact scoreline for El Clasico vs Real Madrid ahead of kick-off
In an interview with Twitch channel Jijantes FC ahead of Barca's LaLiga clash against Real Madrid on October 26, Gerard Pique predicted the exact scoreline in favor of La Blaugrana. He said (via Barca Blaugranes):
“We will win today. Looking at the latest results and how we are getting there, there are many chances of taking the 3 points. Today we’ll win 4-0."
The Catalan side's win over Real Madrid ended their 42-games-unbeaten streak in LaLiga. If they would have won or drawn against Barca on Saturday, Los Blancos could have equaled the Catalan outfit's record of being 43-games-unbeaten in the league between 2017 and 2018.
With their massive win over the Merengues, Barca sit atop the LaLiga table with 30 points off 11 games. Los Blancos stand second with 24 points off 11 games. After losing the title to Real Madrid last season, it remains to be seen if Barcelona can win it this season.
