"Germany, Spain and Italy all aren’t as strong as they once were" - Graeme Souness names his favorites to win the 2024 Euros

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has backed England to go all the way and win the upcoming 2024 Euro. The former Scotland international reckons that the trio of Germany, Spain and Italy are no longer the forces they used to be and believes this could be England's chance.

Souness insisted that the Three Lions were the better team against France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals and were unlucky to finish on the losing side. The Scotsman insisted that England have top players but get let down because of their underwhelming history in major competitions. Souness told William Hill, as quoted by DAZN:

“I think England are favourites. Germany, Spain and Italy all aren’t as strong as they once were. When it comes to France, England were better than them in the World Cup quarter-final in the second half. They went a goal down and took them on, after which they were the better team. I think the stars have aligned for England this summer."

The former Liverpool player and manager added:

“Experience in winning tournaments doesn’t matter. If you’re a top player, you go into every game thinking you can win it. These players are winning games every week at club level, they’re winners. They don’t put the England shirt on and feel different because they’ve never won a tournament in it.”

England head into the Euros as one of the favorites to clinch the trophy thanks to their well-balanced squad filled with top players. However, the Three Lions have to overcome their terrible record in major competitions, especially the Euros.

While England have won the World Cup once in 1966, they are yet to taste success at the continental stage. They finished runners-up last time out in 2020 and secured third place on two occasions.

Wayne Rooney names player he would drop to include Jack Grealish in England squad for the Euros

Manchester United and England great Wayne Rooney has claimed that he would have taken Jack Grealish ahead of Jarrod Bowen for the Euros. He has insisted that the Three Lions have enough options on the right flank and taking Grealish would have made more sense.

Rooney said that Gareth Southgate already had Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden on the right wing. The former England international said (via GOAL):

"Grealish, I would have taken him. Bowen on the right, they have Saka, Cole Palmer, Foden could play out there. I would have taken Grealish instead of Bowen."

Grealish endured a tough season last time out as he spent a big chunk of the season on the sidelines with injuries. The England international played just 2114 minutes of football and contributed with three goals and three assists. The former Aston Villa star was not even named in the England preliminary squad for the Euros raising many eyebrows.
