“Get better information first” - Manchester City star Ederson’s wife hits back at claim suggesting he is affected by praise given to teammate
Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson's wife, Lais Moraes has hit out at claims that the Brazilian was affected by the praise given to his teammate and fellow shot-stopper Stefan Ortega. She dismissed the suggestions, branding them as fake news.
Moraes took to Instagram to rebuff claims from The Athletic that the Brazil international felt insecure by the praise heaped on his German teammate. She posted on Instagram Story (via SportBible):
"Get better information first, this is totally fake news."
The report came amid rumors that the goalkeeper was keen on a move to the Saudi Pro League. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola also spoke about the possibility of Ederson's departure and told the media recently:
"I don't know. He has to see maybe other options. Of course, I would like him to stay but it depends now on the clubs. I don't really know the situation because there are no contacts in the last days and it's a question of training and being with us until the transfer window is going to finish. We will see what is going to happen with him."
Al Nassr were said to be in talks with Ederson. However, they were not ready to match Manchester City's asking price. Al Ittihad are now reportedly leading the chase for his signature but are yet to submit an official bid.
Fabrizio Romano comments on Manchester City's goalkeeper situation
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester City are not planning to sign a goalkeeper even if Ederson leaves this summer. In his latest column for the Daily Briefing, the Italian journalist stated that the club trust Stefan Ortega, writing:
"Man City will leave it to the player; they are aware of Saudi interest and won't stand in his way. Man City are considering moving for another goalkeeper in the summer, and also they have Stefan Ortega at the club and he's been fantastic, always very special whenever he plays, like that save against Son Heung-min that made such a big difference in the title race.
"In terms of a replacement, I personally think the best fit for them could be Ortega, who is already at the club. He's shown he's a fantastic goalkeeper and in my opinion he's ready to be their first choice."
Ortega has been brilliant for Manchester City every time been given a chance. The German goalkeeper famously made a save to deny Son Heung-min last season in a 1v1 situation that helped them beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 and eventually clinch the Premier League title later in the season.
