"Get this guy out of my team", "Enough reason to release him" – Chelsea fans want Marc Guiu sold after he names Blues star as idol
After Chelsea forward Marc Guiu named Romelu Lukaku as one of his idols, Blues fans have taken to social media to express their disagreement in a joking manner.
In a recent interview with BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella, Guiu was queried to name his footballing idols. The Spaniard claimed that he idolised Lukaku, Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez, Inter Miami attacker Luis Suarez, and former Barcelona attacker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Following Guiu's comments, a Chelsea supporter commented on X:
"Lukaku? Get this guy out of my team."
Another Blues fan stated that Guiu should be released, writing on X:
"Idolizing Lukaku is enough reason to release him."
Another fan questioned Guiu's choice of idolising Lukaku, posting:
"Is he serious at all? Is Lukaku someone to idolise?"
A Blues supporter expressed his amusement, commenting:
"Lukaku how? 😂😂😂"
Another Chelsea supporter echoed a similar sentiment, writing:
"Idolises Lukaku 🤢😂🤣"
Sharing his thoughts on Guiu's recent response, a fan commented:
"Did he say Lukaku demmmm."
A Chelsea fan claimed that the new signing should be sold, writing:
"I wanted to like Guiu because he is handsome BUT idolizing LAKAKA is my final straw... SELL HIM."
Another Blues supporter urged Guiu to stop idolizing Lukaku, posting:
"Unidolize ASAP."
Since rejoining the Blues in a then-club record £97.5 million switch from Inter Milan in 2021, Lukaku has failed to live up to his price tag. The 31-year-old netted just 15 goals in 44 total outings in the 2021-22 term before suffering a fallout with ex-Blues boss Thomas Tuchel.
In the last two seasons, Lukaku has relished two straight loan spells away from the Stamford Bridge outfit. He scored 14 times in 37 games for Inter Milan in the 2022-23 season. The ex-Manchester United star netted 21 goals in 47 overall games for AS Roma last campaign.
Marc Guiu opens up on Chelsea ambitions
During a chat with Nizaar Kinsella, Marc Guiu was asked if he is ready to feature in the Premier League in the 2024-25 term. He responded:
"I'm just focused on the pre-season tour, doing my best and that's what I can say. But [Blues boss Enzo] Maresca told me there was an amazing sporting project full of young talent, that he wanted me to be a part of it and that he had a lot of faith in me and my skills and capabilities. I think I'm ready. We work very hard every day both on and off the pitch, on the physical aspect and the practical."
Since arriving for a fee of £5 million from Barcelona last month, Guiu has recorded one goal in four pre-season outings for his new team.
The Chelsea attacker scored twice in seven matches for Barcelona.
