"Glorious" - Tottenham legend Gary Lineker gives glowing verdict of Arsenal star ahead of the NLD
Tottenham Hotspur icon Gary Lineker has hailed Arsenal superstar Bukayo Saka ahead of the North London Derby on Sunday (April 28).
Saka, 22, will be in action for the Gunners as they look to continue their push for the Premier League title. They sit top of the table, with a one-point lead over second-placed Manchester City who have a game in hand.
The English attacker has been crucial for Mikel Arteta's side and will be eager to make an impact against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He's conjured up 18 goals and 14 assists in 44 games across competitions.
Lineker was asked by the Premier League's TikTok account to put his former club's rivalry with Arsenal to one side and describe Saka in one word. He said (via TBR Football):
"Glorious."
Saka's meteoric rise at the Emirates has been glorious as he's quickly become one of the Premier League's megastars. He's also impressed at international level, earning 32 caps with 11 goals and seven assists.
The Gunners winger has wowed fans for several years with his elegance on the ball, speed, and unpredictability. He won the PFA Young Player of the Year award last season.
Mikel Arteta urges Arsenal to continue their winning form as they make the trip to Tottenham
Arsenal recorded a famous 5-0 win against Chelsea on Tuesday (April 23), their biggest-ever win over the Blues. It bodes well for Arteta's men as they continue their title hunt against Tottenham on Sunday.
Spurs could be the Gunners' toughest test left of the campaign as Ange Postecoglou has overseen an impressive season. His Lilywhites are fifth, six points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with two games in hand.
Arteta wants his players to focus on themselves and try and continue their superb league form. They have lost just one of their last 14 league games and boast wins such as a 3-1 home victory against Liverpool.
The Gunners boss said (via football.london):
"We have to look at ourselves and perform the best possible way and win our matches. It sounds a bit repetitive but that’s what we have to do."
The north London rivals settled on a draw in September at the Emirates. Cristian Romero's own goal gave Arsenal the lead before Son-Heung Min equalized. Saka netted from the spot as the Gunners retook the lead only for Son to grab a brace and the two rivals finished with a point each.
