"Go out and make yourselves footballing legends" - Harry Redknapp sends rallying message to England ahead of Euro 2024 final
Harry Redknapp believes England are favorites to win the Euro 2024 final against Spain this Sunday, July 14. The former Premier League manager has backed the Three Lions to win their first-ever European Championship in Germany.
While Gareth Southgate's men have received criticism for their performances at the Euro 2024, they've managed to secure crucial wins and reach the final. England topped their respective group standings despite winning just one game in three games. The Three Lions then beat Slovakia, Switzerland, and the Netherlands in the knockout stages to book a spot in the final against Spain.
Ahead of the fixture, Redknapp has made his prediction and he sees England defeating La Roja in Germany. He wrote in his column for The Sun:
"One game from glory, the chance to write history — now go out and make yourselves footballing legends. That’s the message I’m sure Gareth Southgate will be giving to his boys on Sunday, and you know what? I’m convinced they’ll do it as well."
Redknapp added:
"I’ve said all along that this is our time, so there’s no way I’ll be going back on my prediction. Not because it’s written in the stars, not because the draw has been kind, and not because we’ve ridden our luck on more than one occasion in these Euros.
"All that’s helped, for sure, but not the reason I’m so confident. It’s because I look at the two teams and just think, man for man, we are stronger than Spain."
If the Three Lions manage to win the Euro 2024 this weekend, it will be their first major international trophy since winning the FIFA World Cup in 1966.
Ronald Koeman previews Euro 2024 final between England and Spain
Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman believes England can defeat Spain in the Euro 2024 final despite La Roja's excellent form this year.
Luis de la Fuente's men have arguably been the best team at this edition of the tournament. Spain have won every single fixture so far with their impressive playing style.
However, Koeman believes the Three Lions have what it takes to hand La Roja their first and only defeat of the tournament. After England knocked out his side in the semi-finals, the Dutch manager said (via The Mirror):
“England showed great football in the first half after being 1-0 down. It’s football. If you watch all the matches of the Spanish national team they are more offensive with wingers and [playing] football from the back and ball position and you need to stop that."
"But England are in the final and have the possibility to win it. Maybe from the outside because Spain are playing from a high level [they are favourites] but England can stop them, why not.”
Olympiastadion Berlin will play host to the Euro 2024 final.
