Harry Kane set to make England record as he captains team for Euro 2024 opening clash with Serbia
England captain Harry Kane is set to make a record 23rd appearance at a major tournament when he takes the field for the Three Lions' Euro 2024 opener with Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday (June 16). The 30-year-old striker is playing his third European Championship.
Kane is coming off a superb debut season with Bayern Munich, registering 44 goals and 12 assists in 45 games across competitions. Most of those goal contributions - 36 goals and eight assists in 32 games - came in the Bundesliga, where his side finished third, ending their 12-year stranglehold on the title.
Nevertheless, the England captain has warmed up for his third European Championship finals by scoring once in two friendlies - in the 3-0 friendly win at home to Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Two weeks later, Kane is set to surpass Ashley Cole to become the Three Lions' highest appearance maker at major tournaments.
So, how has he fared in all these games? Well, the short answer would be pretty well.
In 22 major tournament games coming into Euro 2024, Kane has scored eight times, provided three assists in 11 games in the FIFA World Cup and four goals in 11 games at the Euros.
How has Harry Kane fared for Euro 2024 contenders England?
Harry Kane has had a stellar record for England since his senior international debut in a 4-0 home win over Lithuania in a Euro 2016 qualifier, where the then-Tottenham Hotspur striker scored.
Since then, the 30-year-old has amassed an impressive record for Gareth Southgate's side - 63 goals and 19 assists in 91 games - to emerge as their record goalscorer, surpassing Wayne Rooney a year ago.
However, despite his stellar exploits in club and international football, the striker has yet to win a trophy. Could Euro 2024 be the place where Kane ends his silverware drought and the Three Lions' 58-year drought since their 1966 FIFA World Cup triumph at home?
