"Has been very poor" - Jamie Carragher calls out Tottenham star as Arsenal defeat Spurs in North London Derby clash

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has called out Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero for his disappointing display during his side's defeat to Arsenal. Spurs suffered a 1-0 loss in the North London derby in the Premier League on Sunday, September 15.

Tottenham Hotspur won one and drew one of their opening two league games before suffering a 2-1 loss at Newcastle United before the international break. Given the number of key absentees from the Arsenal squad, Ange Postecoglou's side were considered favorites for the derby.

Argentine defender Cristian Romero started in central defense alongside Micky van de Ven and showed uncharacteristic naivety for the only goal of the game. Sharing his thoughts on X after the goal, Jamie Carragher called out the defender for the quality of his performances this season.

"Romero’s start to the season has been very poor!" Carragher wrote.

Bukayo Saka sent an in-swinging corner-kick into the box and Romero allowed Gabriel Magalhaes to outmuscle him and get a free header in the 64th minute.

Defensively, Spurs have not done much wrong as a unit, conceding four goals in their first four games of the campaign. They have, however, let themselves down in key moments, one of which the Gunners exploited to claim a vital win.

Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in 13th place, having picked up just four points from their opening four games. They will face Championship outfit Coventry City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday as they look to bounce back from successive defeats.

Bukayo Saka makes Arsenal history in win over Tottenham

Bukayo Saka made history for Arsenal as he helped his side claim a narrow 1-0 win over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The England international registered an assist for the Gunners in their hard-fought win.

Mikel Arteta's side were without a number of key players from the start, missing Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori due to injury and Declan Rice to a suspension. However, they managed to find a way past their rivals away from home. Saka crossed a corner-kick for Gabriel Magalhaes to power home a header in the 64th minute of the encounter.

Bukayo Saka has now become the first Arsenal player to record an assist in each of his side's first four Premier League games. The 23-year-old sits alongside Cole Palmer at the summit of the league's assist charts with four to his name.
