"Have got every reason to be excited" - Journalist makes Cristiano Ronaldo claim about inbound Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim

Journalist James Horncastle has likened incoming Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim to Cristiano Ronaldo after his final home game in charge of Sporting CP. The Portuguese tactician led his side to a stunning 4-1 victory over Premier League champions Manchester City, which was their third win in four Champions League games this season.

Manchester United quickly identified Ruben Amorim as their choice to take over as head coach after parting ways with Erik ten Hag. Amorim has had an impressive stint in Portugal, winning titles with Braga and Sporting CP.

James Horncastle was on duty with TNT Sports after the Sporting-Manchester City game when he pointed out a similarity between Amorim and hus former Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Go back to United’s history… who did they find at Sporting? They found Cristiano didn’t they. Have they found the Cristiano of managers? That’s what they’ll all be hoping. On the basis of a performance like that, I think United fans have got every reason to be excited," he said.

Manchester United took a punt on an 18-year-old kid, who ran rings around defender John O'Shea in a pre-season game in 2003. The teenager turned out to be Cristiano Ronaldo, becoming a club legend and one of the best players in the history of the sport.

Ruben Amorim has a much higher profile as a coach than the teenage Ronaldo did in 2003. With two league titles to his name as well as multiple cups, the 39-year-old arrives at Old Trafford with high expectations.

Premier League legend tips Ruben Amorim to okay Cristiano Ronaldo's Manchester United return

Premier League legend Teddy Sheringham has predicted that incoming Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim would be okay with having Cristiano Ronaldo join the club. The Portuguese legend, 39, left the Red Devils in 2022 after falling out with then-manager Erik ten Hag and the club's hierarchy.

Sheringham spoke with Flash Score about his former side signing the Al-Nassr man for a third stint at Old Trafford. He pointed out that Amorim would be interested in working with his former teammate, but does not expect Ronaldo to return.

“Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, but he is onto bigger and better things," the former striker said.

Ruben Amorim and Cristiano Ronaldo, both 39, were teammates in the Portugal national team between 2010 and 2014. They shared the pitch eight times in the colours of the Selecao before Amorim left the fold of the national team.
