"He has been an absolute revelation" - Jamie Carragher heaps praise on Manchester United star
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has stated that he loves watching Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo play. The Red Devils started their 2024-25 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Friday, August 16.
The 19-year-old Manchester United graduate made his senior debut for the club in January 2023 and won the 2022-23 Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award.
While speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher opened up about his admiration for Mainoo and his growth on the pitch. The pundit said:
"I think he has been an absolute revelation. I love watching him play and what he did in the summer."
"He came through last season, we were asking questions about United’s midfield. It was Casemiro needs a partner, now it’s Mainoo needs a partner. I think he is going to be a superstar," added Jamie Carragher.
Kobbie Mainoo netted five goals and provided three assists in 35 appearances across competitions while winning the FA Cup with the Red Devils last season.
Kobbie Mainoo made six appearances while maintaining a 92.5% passing accuracy in the 2024 UEFA European Championship for England. The Three Lions ended as runners-up.
New signee Joshua Zirkzee scores a winner on his debut for Manchester United
Manchester United's new signing Joshua Zirkzee netted the winning goal on his debut for the Red Devils in their first Premier League clash against Fulham. After a goalless first half, the Dutch forward came off the bench in the 61st minute and scored the winner in the 87th minute.
Speaking about Joshua Zirkzee's performance in his debut match, head coach Erik ten Hag said (via Daily Mail):
"It doesn’t matter if he’s Dutch, English, Russian or South American, he’s a Manchester United player. It’s very good as a striker to score the winning goal in his first game."
"I remember Rasmus Hojlund [scoring] in his first game (versus Brighton) and then VAR came to the conclusion. He was so frustrated. For [Zirkzee], I am very happy for him, it will give him belief and the fans. It’s a very good start," added the Dutch manager.
Joshua Zirkzee arrived at Old Trafford from Serie A club Bologna on a five-year contract this summer.
