“He could become the second Thomas Muller” - Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer speaks up on 21-year-old star amidst interest from Real Madrid
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer sent a clear message to clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester City after their reported interest in signing Jamal Musiala. The 21-year-old midfielder is considered one of the best young talents of his generation and has been key to Bayern's success in recent years.
Speaking to TZ, Hainer made it clear that Bayern Munich would like to keep Musiala at the club for a long time amid interest from other European giants. He said via Tribal Football:
"We want to try everything to keep him as long as possible. In my opinion, he could become the second Thomas Muller and stay here for the next 20 years."
Transfer interest in Jamal Musiala appeared to have increased this summer after his sensational performance in Euro 2024. The German international scored three goals (joint-highest) before Germany bowed out of the tournament after a 2-1 quarter-final loss to Spain.
Musiala's current contract with Bayern is set to expire in June 2026, with the midfielder being linked to a potential move to Real Madrid over the last year. However, with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler stacking up Los Blancos' midfield, Musiala might not fit into Ancelotti's plans.
"Things can always change quickly" - Jamal Musiala opens up about his future amid Real Madrid interest
Ahead of facing Hungary in the UEFA Nations League, Jamal Musiala was asked whether he would consider following the footsteps of his friend Jude Bellingham and moving outside Germany. Bellingham joined Real Madrid for a reported £89 million from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023.
Musiala claimed he's happy at Bayern Munich but clarified:
"I'm very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals. Playing abroad like Bellingham? I'm not thinking about where I will be in five years. Things can always change quickly in world of football."
Musiala and Bellingham performed well for their respective clubs last season. They also faced each other as Real Madrid met Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. Ultimately, Los Blancos triumphed with a 4-3 aggregate win over the Bavarian giants.
While Musiala's season went trophyless for the first time in 12 years, Jude Bellingham's debut season at Real Madrid was a major success. The Englishman remained key to Los Blancos picking up their record-extending 15th UEFA Champions League alongside La Liga and Supercopa de Espana.
