"He has the capacity to one day be a world reference" - Diogo Dalot heaps praises on Manchester United summer transfer target
Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot heaped praise on his international teammate Diogo Costa, who has been linked with a move to the Red Devils in the summer.
The FC Porto goalkeeper is one of the best young shot-stoppers in the world and has attracted attention from top European sides, including United.
While Manchester United look set to extend David de Gea's contract, reports suggest that the club is in the market for a new shot-stopper. Costa is understood to be one of the players leading the club's shortlist.
Dalot had high praise for the goalkeeper. Speaking to Mais Futebol, he said:
"I grew up with him, he is my friend, there is a great relationship between us and I know perfectly well that he has the capacity to one day be a world reference. I don't know if he will be at Manchester United or another big club in Europe. He demonstrates at FC Porto that he is a differentiated goalkeeper and has helped the club a lot. If it continues there, I will be extremely happy. If he leaves, I hope he has the greatest success in the world."
Costa has made 38 appearances for Porto this season, keeping 19 clean sheets across competitions. Costa was also Portugal's first choice goalkeeper during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He has made 11 appearances for his national team, keeping five clean sheets.
Diogo Dalot spoke about his season with Manchester United
Diogo Dalot has had a good season with Manchester United this term. He has scored two goals and provided three assists in 41 appearances across competitions.
The Red Devils have won the Carabao Cup and are currently fourth in the Premier League. They have also reached the FA Cup final, where they will face Manchester City on June 3. Speaking about his season, Dalot said:
"It has been a positive season on an individual and collective level and I want to end it in the best possible way. It's no secret that we want to finish in the top four [of the league] and play in the Champions League next season. In addition, we have a [England, against Manchester City] Cup final ahead of us. I know there is little time left, but there is still a lot to play for and this is my future."
Dalot's flexibility has been useful for Manchester United this season. While the Portuguese defender is a right-back by trade, Erik ten Hag has also used him as a left-back in recent weeks.
