"He caught the Kounde virus", "Beautiful goal really good header" - Fans react as Barcelona star scores bizarre own goal against Valladolid
Fans on Twitter reacted hilariously after Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen scored an own goal with a flying header against Valladolid in their ongoing La Liga clash.
Valladolid are currently leading 2-0, thanks to Christensen's own goal in the second minute and Cyle Larin's 22nd minute penalty. Barcelona's previous fixture ended in a 2-1 loss against Real Sociedad.
Darwin Machis' cross came in from the left-flank towards Valladolid striker Cyle Larin, who was positioned between Barca's centre-backs Christensen and Marcos Alonso. Christensen dived to prevent the ball from reaching Larin but ended up diverting it into his own net.
Reacting to Christensen's own goal, one Twitter user wrote:
"He's caught the koundΓ© virus."
Another claimed:
"Honestly beautiful goal really good header."
Despite the hilarious own-goal, Christensen has been rock-solid at the back for the Blaugrana this season. In 29 appearances, he has helped the Catalan club keep 14 clean sheets.
Here are some of the best reactions across Twitter after the Barcelona centre-back found the back of his own net in acrobatic fashion:
While the tie is a dead rubber for Barcelona, who have already secured the 2022-23 La Liga title, a win could be huge for Valladolid's bid to avoid relegation.
Barcelona manager Xavi recently showered praise on Andreas Christensen
Since joining Barcelona last summer, Andreas Christensen has been one of the key defenders for the Blaugrana. Getting the Danish centre-back on a free transfer after his contract with Chelsea expired is turning out to be a shrewd piece of business by La Liga giants.
Xavi recently heaped praise on the Danish international. He claimed that Christensen has been one of the best signings in Barca's recent history. The Spanish tactician said (via Barca Universal):
βChristensen is one of the best signings for Barca in recent years, without a doubt.β
Taking into account Christensen's performances in his first season at the club, he can be expected to be an important part of the team's first XI in the coming seasons.
