"He'd be a new face in the Bundesliga" - Lothar Matthaus urges Bayern Munich to appoint ex-Arsenal boss

Lothar Matthaus has urged Bayern Munich to appoint Aston Villa boss Unai Emery as their next manager. He believes that the Spaniard has the qualities to lead the German club, and a new face in the Bundesliga would be a big boost.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Matthaus claimed Emery has enough experience and has trophies to his name from his time at Sevilla. He added that the manager has a good grasp of English, and the language barrier would not be an issue. He said (via Metro):

"I would get Unai Emery from Aston Villa. He's doing a great job there. He has a lot of experience – including internationally – and he has titles to his name with Sevilla, for example. He speaks perfect English. He can then learn German, but the players can all speak English anyway, so I don't see any language barrier. Emery would also be someone who would bring in a new wind, he would be a new face in the Bundesliga and that would fit well with Bayern Munich."

Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been named among the managers Bayern Munich are targeting this summer. They have already seen Julian Nagelsmann and Xabi Alonso snub moves to the Allianz Arena.

Emery's Aston Villa are currently defying expectations in the Premier League as they occupy fourth place ahead of clubs like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea.

Bayern Munich seemingly not interested in Zinedine Zidane but rule out Thomas Tuchel stay

Bayern Munich have hinted that Zinedine Zidane is not on their list as they are looking for a head coach who speaks English. Their sporting director Max Eberl spoke about it to Sky Sports and said (via GOAL):

"I can say that our search for a new manager is at the final stages. The coach should speak English, not necessarily German."

When asked about Zidane specifically, he replied:

"I don't know if he speaks English."

Eberl was then quizzed about the possibility of Thomas Tuchel staying beyond the season and he was quick to rule that out. He said (via GOAL):

"The decision was made beforehand. But it was made together. That's why we don't need to discuss it. I really enjoy working with Thomas."

Tuchel has also rebuffed claims of staying beyond the summer and said:

"I have an agreement with the club, it has been communicated and it stands."

Apart from Unai Emery, Roberto De Zerbi, Ralf Rangnick, and Hansi Flick have been linked with the German giants.
