“He didn’t help the club” - Manchester United legend gives honest verdict on Cristiano Ronaldo’s bombshell interview with Piers Morgan
Peter Schmeichel has stated that Cristiano Ronaldo did not help Manchester United with his interview with Piers Morgan. The former Manchester United goalkeeper believes that the comments were not made at the right time and he was just taking out his anger.
Speaking to A Bola, the United legend stated that Ronaldo is the best player of all time in his opinion. However, he was not going to defend the comments against his former club as they were made in the heat of the moment, saying:
"I like Ronaldo. For me, he is the best player of all time. His statistics are incredible. I understand that at that moment in his life, he was going through something he had never experienced before—adversity. Not being in the team, not being number one. And I felt that by giving that interview to Piers Morgan, he didn’t help the club.
"There was a bit of anger he needed to express. I felt it wasn’t the right time. Many of the things he said are hard to disagree with, but that wasn’t his job and it didn’t help the club. Now, when it comes to him, he has a point of view, he says what he wants, and you have to accept that.
"The truth is, he didn’t help the club. What happens when someone leaves and says the things he said is that every time the manager has a press conference, that’s what will be discussed. They won’t talk about the team or the team’s progress.
"They’ll talk about what someone said. Just last week, Ronaldo said something else, and the entire week was about that. This doesn’t help Manchester United. Ronaldo’s job isn’t to help Manchester United, he can say what he wants, but it’s a bit unfortunate because we need help and support. We don’t need adversity and people not saying good things about us," he added.
Cristiano Ronaldo hit out at Erik ten Hag and Manchester United in 2022 with an interview with Piers Morgan.
What did Cristiano Ronaldo say about Manchester United?
Cristiano Ronaldo was furious with Erik ten Hag reducing him to a bench role at Manchester United. He took shots at the Manchester United manager and claimed that the Dutchman had no respect for him, and he reciprocated it.
The Portuguese superstar took shots at the owners as well and claimed that the club had not moved forward. He stated that everything was exactly the same as his first stint at the club and nothing was replaced.
Cristiano Ronaldo also accused the Manchester United board of trying to push him out of the club in the summer of 2022. His contract was terminated just days before the FIFA World Cup began in Qatar.
