"He didn’t want that ball" - Jermaine Jenas spots Chelsea star Thiago Silva telling off teammate in FA Cup semi-final exit to Man City
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas spotted Chelsea defender Thiago Silva telling goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic off following a miscalculated pass during their FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City.
The Blues lost 0-1 to City despite creating plenty of scoring opportunities at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, April 20. However, in the fourth minute of the game, Silva received an ill-timed pass from Petrovic and barely managed to get rid of the ball in time.
Jenas stated that an exchange of words took place between the Brazilian defender and the Serbian goalkeeper. The former footballer said (via TBRfootball):
"He didn’t want that (ball) did he, Silva. Having a word with his goalkeeper there."
Petrovic has conceded 33 goals in 24 appearances for the Blues and has kept five clean sheets this season.
Manchester City will face the winner of the other semi-final between Manchester United and Coventry City in the final of the FA Cup on May 25 at the Wembley Stadium in London.
Chelsea created several chances in the game but failed to convert them
The Blue looked pretty creative on the pitch and were able to put the defending champions in vulnerable positions. However, Mauricio Pochettino's men were far from clinical in the crucial moments.
Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson failed to convert several good chances, including a header in the second half, which he directed straight at Stefan Ortega. In the seventh minute of the game, Jackson missed another opportunity, with Ortega blocking his grounded drive.
Chelsea's best player this season, Cole Palmer, put in an impressive performance for the Blues yet again, but failed to slot one home. He had scored four goals against Everton last week.
Furthermore, Ben Chilwell, who returned to the pitch following injury and a subsequent illness, was brought on by the gaffer in the dying embers of the game. Sadly, he failed to complete a pass to teammate Raheem Sterling who was in on goal, which proved to be extremely costly for the Blues.
Following their defeat in the FA Cup, Chelsea will turn to Premier League action on April 23 when they travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal. The Blues are currently ninth on the table, while Arsenal are first with 74 points.
