"He doesn’t have one good memory from the club" - When ex-PSG star opened up on Angel Di Maria's dislike for Manchester United
During an interview in 2020, former PSG goalkeeper Marcin Bułka opened up on Angel Di Maria's dislike for Manchester United. The Argentine winger spent the 2014-15 season at Old Trafford following his four-year tenure at Real Madrid.
Angel Di Maria joined the Red Devils on a five-year deal for a reported £59.7million fee and was also given the iconic No.7 shirt. However, his time in England didn't go according to plan as his family had trouble adjusting to the country and he couldn't express himself on the pitch for the Premier League giants.
In an interview with Libero on TyC Sports, Di Maria once stated that he did not understand the hype around the No.7 shirt at United. He said (via The Mirror):
"I didn't give a f*** about the Manchester United No.7. At first they talked to me a lot about it... it was just a shirt."
Marcin Bułka, who has shared the pitch with Di Maria during their respective tenures at PSG, confirmed that the Argentine "hates" Manchester United. While speaking on a Polish YouTube channel Foot Truck, the shot-stopper said (via The Mirror):
"Di María hates Manchester United so much. He doesn’t have one good memory from the club. Whenever we watched their games on TV, he told us to change the channel. He can't stand them."
Following his stint at Manchester United, Angel Di Maria joined PSG in 2015 and remained at the club till 2022. He recorded 93 goals and 119 assists in 295 appearances while winning five Ligue 1 titles, four Coupe de France, four Coupe de la Ligue, and five Trophée des Champions with PSG.
Former PSG star Angel Di Maria once referred to former Manchester United coach as the "problem"
Former PSG star Angel Di Maria opened up about his relationship with Louis van Gaal, who was his manager during his one-season tenure at Manchester United. The former Dutch manager was in charge of the Red Devils from 2014 to 2016.
During his aforementioned interview with Libero on TyC Sports, Di Maria spoke about Louis van Gaal, referring to the former coach as his "problem" at Manchester United. The Argentine forward said (via The Mirror):
"My problem at Manchester was the coach. Van Gaal was the worst of my career. I would score, assist, and the next day he would show me my misplaced passes. He displaced me from one day to the other, he didn't like players being more than him."
After a short stint at Juventus, Angel Di Maria joined Benfica for his second spell at the Portuguese club. Across his two spells, he has made 172 appearances for Benfica and registered 32 goals and 43 assists.
