"He has every attribute of a centre-back in the modern game" - Manchester United star backs Leny Yoro to have a 'bright future'
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has backed new signing Leny Yoro to have a bright future at the club. It comes in the wake of the 18-year-old centre-back securing a reported £52 million plus add-ons transfer to Old Trafford.
Yoro is currently regarded as one of Europe's high-profile young defenders and was in high demand this summer prior to joining the Red Devils. Spanish giants Real Madrid were among the top clubs who were high on Yoro's trail. However, Manchester United moved in to secure the French youngster's signature.
Following his switch to Old Trafford from Lille, fellow teammate Maguire has backed the youngster to have an exciting career. The former United skipper, however, said that fans should be cautious of their expectations of Yoro, seeing that he's still relatively young and bound to make mistakes.
Maguire said in an interview via The Athletic:
"We must remind ourselves he is really young. There are gonna be mistakes, but he has every attribute of a centre-back in the modern game, so I’m sure he’s gonna have a bright future.”
Erik ten Hag labels Manchester United new signing as "mature"
Erik ten Hag was full of praise for new signing Yoro after his debut for Manchester United during their 2-0 pre-season win against Rangers on July 20. The Frenchman played 45 minutes and did put up an impressive performance.
Speaking after the game, Ten Hag was quite impressed with the 18-year-old's debut and went on to dub his performance as 'mature'. He said via The Guardian:
"For the first time, after just one training [session], it’s a very mature performance. That’s what we saw when we scouted him. It’s great to have him. He’s a very young, talented centre‑back and there’s a lot to come. He’s here, we think he can play but there’s so many games that he’ll be in a group of four or five defenders.”
Next up for Manchester United and Yoro will be a crunch pre-season fixture against Premier League giants Arsenal on Saturday, July 27.
