“He has a very important role in Real Madrid" - Brazil legend Cafu says Los Blancos superstar is 'one of the best in the world' in his position
Brazil legend Cafu has hailed Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal as one of the best in his position in the world. The Spanish defender is an important part of Los Blancos, and helped them to dominate European football last season, making 41 appearances across all competitions.
The 32-year-old Spaniard is a legend in the Spanish capital, making over 400 appearances for his boyhood club and winning five Champions League titles with them. His performances and skills have gotten him praise from Brazillian legend Cafu, who was a world-class right back during his playing time.
The former Selecao captain hailed Cavajal in a recent interview with EFE in Rio de Janeiro, telling that he was not surprised by the Spanish international.
Cafu revealed that he is aware of the Los Blancos man and his talents for a while, saying:
“Honestly, I wasn’t surprised, because I’ve known about Carvajal’s potential for a long time. Although I am Brazilian, I have been saying for a long time that he is one of the best in the world."
Cafu concluded, saying:
“Today, he has a very important role in Real Madrid, he is the leader of Real Madrid. He’s a full-back who goes forward, a full-back who crosses, a full-back who marks, a full-back who scores goals and likes it.”
Dani Carvajal will be pleased to get recognition from a football luminary who played in his position. While the La Fabrica graduate is aware of his position as a football great, he will be delighted to receive outside recognition.
Cafu backs Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr to claim Ballon d'Or after impressive season for Los Blancos
Brazilian legend Cafu has hailed his compatriot Vinicius Junior for having a brilliant season and tipped him to win the Ballon d'Or. The 23-year-old had a fabulous campaign for Los Blancos and played an important role in helping them to La Liga and UEFA Champions League glory.
Vinicius Jr was lethal in front of goal for the European giants, bagging 24 goals and nine assists in 39 games to put himself in contention for the Ballon d'Or.
Cafu believes he was the best player in the world last season, telling EFE:
"I don’t just see him as a contender, but also as a Ballon d’Or winner. For everything he has done in previous seasons and, above all, for what he has done this season, in the Champions League final, also by winning La Liga with Real Madrid by scoring a lot of goals. Vinicius’ numbers are very attractive, so I think he deserves it"
The Real Madrid star hopes to win the award in October when it is awarded and can strengthen his case at Copa America this summer. Vini Jr will however be up against his Los Blancos teammates, with Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe also aiming for the award.
