“He just plays like he’s in his garden with his mates” - Owen Hargreaves says he loves watching Manchester United star play football
Owen Hargreaves has heaped praise on Manchester United player Kobbie Mainoo. The pundit has said that the midfielder is one of the players he loves watching play. He explained that the Englishman makes it feel like he is just playing with his mates in the garden.
Speaking to Metro, former United star Hargreaves stated that Mainoo is calm and composed on the pitch and is amazing on the ball. He added that Manchester United need to find the balance in the midfield around the youngster:
"I just love watching Kobbie Mainoo play. He just plays like he's in his garden with his mates. He's amazing, so calm and so composed. I do think they need to improve the balance in and around that midfield, though. All the guys can play and are beautiful players but when you're in a game, there's one ball and 22 players."
"If you don't have it, you got to get it back. I think United, especially last season, had issues with that and at the start of the season, it hasn't been the way we anticipated with the summer they had. Ugarte is going to improve that a lot. He's brilliant and can be that presser that wins the ball in the middle of the park. He's exceptional but again the whole team has got to defend a little bit better from the front," he added.
Mainoo has been a key part of Erik ten Hag's side since making his debut last season. The midfielder scored in the FA Cup final last season to help the Red Devils win against Manchester City.
Manchester United set to offer new contract to Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo has been in impressive form since making his Manchester United debut and the club is already planning to offer him a new deal. The Red Devils are keen on getting the midfielder to extend his stay despite him penning a new contract in early 2023, as per Fabrizio Romano.
Erik ten Hag recently spoke about the Manchester United star's contract status:
"We are very happy with his development. The management has to make a decision about it. Of course, we do this in cooperation. It is something that we always have to discuss when a player is progressing. When we have news, we will let you know."
Manchester United have won two and lost as many times in the Premier League this season. They drew goalless at Crystal Palace last weekend and are currently 11th in the league table.
