“He lacks something more” - Arturo Vidal challenges Real Madrid midfielder to become one of the best in the world
Former Barcelona and Bayern Munich star Arturo Vidal has challenged Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde to become one of the best in the world. The veteran Chile international reckoned that the 25-year-old has what it takes but needs to take his game to the next level.
Federico Valverde has been one of the most promising midfielders in Europe over the last couple of seasons. However, despite his impressive performances, the Uruguayan has been unable to establish himself among the best like Luka Modric, Kevin De Bruyne or even Bruno Fernandes.
Speaking on the subject, Arturo Vidal opined that the Real Madrid midfielder still needed to offer more on the pitch to become one of Europe's finest.
“Fede Valverde? I like him, but I would demand much more from him," the Chilean said in quotes conveyed by Madridxtra on X (formerly Twitter). "It seems to me that he lacks something more. He has all the conditions to be among the best in the world,” he added.
Federico Valverde had a successful 2023/24 season with Real Madrid. He made 54 appearances for the club across all competitions, recording three goals and eight assists as the Spanish giants claimed the La Liga and the Champions League.
The 25-year-old is currently on international duty, representing his nation at the ongoing Copa America. He saw 85 minutes of action as Uruguay strolled to a 3-0 victory over Panama in their opening fixture on Monday (June 14).
Up next, the Uruguayans will take on Bolivia in their second game on Friday, June 28.
What's next for Real Madrid?
Following their successful last season, Real Madrid will aim to maintain that momentum and also build strength with new signings. To start with, the Spanish giants now have Kylian Mbappe, who will join as a free agent. Endrick is also expected to arrive from Brazil, which will command some attention.
Meanwhile, Los Blancos will be torn on whether to cash in on Joselu amid reported interest from Saudi Arabia while players like Nacho and Toni Kroos will be ending their chapters with the club amid other possible changes.
