"He'll have to watch on TV" - Sergio Aguero makes Cristiano Ronaldo claim to Speed ahead of Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami's Club World Cup clash
Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero recently aimed a massive dig at Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami's FIFA Club World Cup clash against Al-Ahly. Aguero told IShowSpeed that Ronaldo would have to watch the game on TV after the American streamer admitted that the 40-year-old didn't qualify for the competition.
Lionel Messi's Inter Miami qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup following an impressive MLS campaign last season. However, Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr were ineligible to feature after ending the season trophyless, with Al-Hilal being the only Saudi Pro League side to qualify.
Despite being a renowned Cristiano Ronaldo fan, YouTuber IShowSpeed was attempting to meet Lionel Messi on stream ahead of Inter Miami's fixture against Al-Ahly. Speed encountered Sergio Aguero and asked the latter to help him meet the Argentine ace.
In response, Aguero, who has a close relationship with Messi, stated (via SPORTbible):
"You're a big Cristiano fan, no? I prefer Messi. Is Ronaldo playing in the Club World Cup or no?"
When Speed admitted that Ronaldo wasn't, Aguero added:
"Ahh, no? Maybe he'll have to watch on TV"
Inter Miami were held to a 0-0 draw by Al-Ahly in their Club World Cup group stage clash on June 14.
"It was a golden era for us" - When Lionel Messi gave his take on rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo
Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi recently stated he enjoyed his battle with Cristiano Ronaldo, admitting it was a golden era for them and football fans. He also claimed that they deserved more credit for maintaining their level for close to two decades.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have established themselves as arguably the two greatest players of all time. Both icons have contested the GOAT debate and have a combined total of 13 Ballons d'Or.
Both superstars faced each other during their prime years between 2009 and 2018 in LaLiga, bringing out the best in each other on the pitch. During an interview with France Football last month, Messi was asked if the battle with Cristiano Ronaldo was now over. He responded (via SPORTbible):
"It's always been a great battle in sporting terms. I think we've fed off each other with this rivalry because we're both great competitors. He too always wanted to win all the time. It was a golden era for us and for every football fan."
He continued:
"We deserve a lot of credit for staying at the top for so long. Because, as they say, it's easy to get there but what's difficult is staying there. We stayed at the top for ten, fifteen years. It was a spectacular and remains a great memory for everyone."
Ronaldo and Messi both left Europe in 2023 and currently represent Al-Nassr and Inter Miami, respectively.
