“He makes me look a bit uglier” - Real Madrid ace Jude Bellingham makes ‘don’t meet your heroes’ admission after David Beckham moment
Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham recently admitted that he was in awe of David Beckham's personality after meeting the former England international. The 21-year-old recently embarked on a project alongside Beckham and was thrilled to finally meet one of his football heroes.
The pair are ambassadors for the popular video game EA Sports and linked up for a shoot for the brand's new EA FC 25 edition. They, alongside football greats Zinedine Zidane, Gianluigi Buffon, and Barcelona women's star Aitana Bonmati, feature on the cover of the game's Ultimate Edition.
Bellingham opened up on meeting Beckham on an episode of his YouTube channel. He refuted the popular 'don't meet your heroes' saying, describing the Inter Miami co-owner as an amazing and 'down to earth' person.
"It's an honor really you know. There's always that thing about don't meet your heroes and he's [Beckham's] one that I've met and I've actually thought 'He's amazing and he seems like a really down to earth guy' regardless of how famous he is and what he's achieved in his career and in his life," Bellinghman said.
He joked that he felt a bit uglier being around Beckham:
"He makes me look a little bit uglier, but you can learn to deal with that if it's on the cover of video games."
Bellingham also expresed delight at being able to meet and play alongside some of his football idols:
"I've played every single EA since I was six, seven. Some of your best memories are sitting around a tiny little telly with a couple of controllers on their last legs because they've been bashed around the room, having games with players you never think you'd play against - you never think you'd meet. And then all of a sudden, I'm on the cover and I'm meeting and playing amongst these players," he said.
"It's really surreal and I'm really grateful that I've been given a chance to do it," he concluded.
The former Borussia Dortmund star emulated Beckham when he signed for Real Madrid in 2023 for £89 million. Beckham joined from Manchester United in 2003. Both are part of an exclusive club of England internationals who have played for the Spanish giants, along with Steve McManaman, Michael Owen, Laurie Cunningham, and Jonathan Woodgate.
How did Jude Bellingham perform in Real Madrid's latest outing?
Jude Bellighman had a quiet game as Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by rivals Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Sunday, September 29. Both sides were forced to share the spoils at the Wanda Metropolitano after a late Angel Correa goal in the 95th minute canceled Eder Militao's 64th-minute strike.
Bellingham played the entire 90 minutes of the clash. He had 71 touches and recorded a 98 percent pass completion. However, he contributed less in the final third as he made no key passes, managing just one shot on target.
Real Madrid are second in the league table with 18 points from eight games, three points behind rivals Barcelona who lead the standings. They next play French side Lille away in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 2.
